Murals are one of the most effective ways to enhance visual experience in a particular area without impeding on floor space. The right mural can transform a dark alleyway into an imaginative playground, a dull classroom into an exciting and stimulating space, or an overwhelming shop floor into a more cohesive environment.
212 Pizza Co. asked me to design a branded mural to revitalize the entry wall to their restaurant. The entryway space was tight and unengaging; a dull transitional area in which ALL customers and diners had to walk through to enter the restaurant. Visible from outside the glass door and the first thing seen when entering, the restaurant owners needed this first impression of their restaurant to reflect the energy and quality of food service that they provide.
The wall visibility from the doorway was my main consideration when designing the overall layout. Knowing the client wanted to feature their logo, I chose a variant that had a vertical form to make the most efficient-use of the space visible from outside the door.
I handpicked wall paint swatches that identically matched their brand colors and kept the palette of colors minimal to reduce paint product costs. The dark stone slate texturing mirrored design elements that appeared on their table menus and gave the vibrant golds in the design a brighter glow.
The restaurant was fully operational and needed the mural installation to be completed during non-business hours. I worked consistently from 11pm – 8:30am to ensure the wall was dry-to-the-touch before opening. From wall preparation and final varnish coats, the mural was completed within a week.
